A. Place your informal response to the Web 2.0 Safety Article here (approximately 250 words):
In the Half Hollow Hills school district the school staff and educational technology experts are working together to address youth risk online issues. This is evident through the many workshops that are given such as School Safety and the Internet. The school staff continuously strives to effectively teach students responsible and safe use of the internet. Teachers in the district are well prepared to effectively provide high quality instruction using the internet. This is evident through the number of teachers that implement technology with great success. The district provides the tools necessary to achieve success such as workshops, teacher collaboration time, technology support, and the products such as computer labs, digital cameras, internet access, etc. Many teachers have completed programs in Educational Technology. Recently, the district has implemented a Teacher Laptop program which provides teachers with a laptop to use for the purpose of incorporating technology into their curriculum.
The district does not have filters therefore, students and parents sign an Internet use agreement. Teachers monitor student use and employ strategies to avoid students from being off task which is a big contributor to the problem of inappropriate use. When students violate the terms of the agreement consequences are applied such as loss of privileges. Due to problems such as plagiarism, the staff has employed the use of the website: This website allows for students to submit their work and it notifies them if it is not original work. The site also provides students with the opportunity to get peer review. Teachers also benefit as assignments are posted online

D. Discuss here why you would visit this resource site/museum with your students. Defend or justify both the financial and time expense of such a trip. Include the visit's connection to State standards for both curriculum area and technology (you may use ISTE standards for technology). Be specific in defining exact standards that will be addressed.

I would visit the Long Island Museum of American Art, History and Carriages because it is a great community resource with items that students can relate to in terms of the history of where they live. Students can gain knowledge and understanding of the history of their community and compare and contrast it to the way it is now. Financially this resources close proximity saves money on gas as well as time since it is about 17 miles from Half Hollow Hills HS East. The trip would take about 25 minutes.
The NY State Standards for Languages Other Than English Checkpoing B this field trip would address would be:

· Speaking - Students can select vocabulary appropriate for a range of topics, employ simple and complex sentences in present, past and future time frames, and express details and nuances by using appropriate modifiers.
· Writing - Students can write brief analysis of more complex content when given the opportunity for organization and advance preparation, though errors may occur more frequently.
· Cultural - Students draw comparisons between societies.
The ISTE standards for technology this field trip would address would be:

  • Students are proficient in the use of technology.
  • Students practice responsible use of technology systems, information, and software.
  • Students use technology tools to enhance learning, increase productivity, and promote creativity.
  • Students use telecommunications to collaborate, publish, and interact with peers, experts, and other audiences.
  • Students use technology to locate, evaluate, and collect information from a variety of sources.

  • H Reflection
  • List here all the web 2.0 tools you have used in your three sets of assessment/assignments.

  • ~
  • WHY did you select these tools for the specific assignments?
  • I selected these tools as they will provide students with the opportunity to practice speaking skills, organize information in a concise manner, and practice writing skills. They will learn to use multimedia to effectively convey information.
What are some of the challenges you might expect in terms of having your students use each of these tools?
  • Some of the challenges I expect with students using these tools are to limit their product to the five minute maximum time. Students tend to include too many pictures, photos, and/or much music that it distracts from the message. The volume of the audio recorded can also create problems. Finally, students may find it difficult to find the embed code and properly place it on the Wiki page.
